  • Weed / plant ID please

    Hello all,

Friend of mine has sent me a pic of two weeds in her garden, see attached.

She fears they may be Japanese Knotweed. I think Pic 1 is plain old bindweed, but I'm not so sure about pic 2 as it has a much thicker stem with a slightly reddish tinge to it.

    Any thoughts appreciated.

They are both bindweed may be different varieties of the same weed or the growing conditions are different.

Yep, good old hedge bindweed in both cases.

I am pulling buckets of bindweed out of my plot at present and to relieve the tedium have started to note the different types. At least three so far. All equally annoying.

I have been hand painting bindweed leaves for 4 years with round up, it is too intertwined with other plants to spray.
Last year I thought I had beaten it but its back again though in less quantity.
