  • Plant Id please

    Hi,
I have found this plant in one of my borders. I was wondering what it was.
Its leaves are a little prickly like a nettles, but no sting just a prickly sensation. I thought it was a type of chocolate mint as the leaves do have an odd chocolaty smell to them.
    Thanks

Looks like something of the nettle family, a weed. I think that it has white flowers like a nettle. Commonly known as a dead nettle. Sorry don't know the correct name but I would pull it up as it rather invasive.

It's commonly called Hedgewoundwort / Stachys sylvatica.
It has quite a robust root system and spreads well. Bees love it though.

Hi thanks for that Think I might just let it stop in the border and keep it under control a bit especially if the bees like it.
I Wikipedia it and it sounds as if years ago it was quite a common and useful herb.

If it smells really strongly and has purplypink flowers its very invasive. Spreads with creeping white roots. I hate the smell - and have it everywhere

Must just be me then. I thought it smelt like chocolate.

There's always a chance it's something different, nvg, there's a lot of wild flowers / weeds with very similar looking foliage. When it flowers you'll know for certain!
