Hi please help I found several of these bugs, they fly away if you try & pick them up,are they a common green capsid? They're on my sunflowers next to cucumbers, there is also messy looking holes in foliage. Should I squash them or are they something else do you know?

Bit hard to see...but have a look at this site, there are several similar to that. Different coloured eyes, antennae, but they may be nymphs???
(Miridae) Orthotylus marginalis
This is the nearest I can see- but there are plenty others there....
Once id'd you might be able to find out that they eat?Last edited by Nicos; 13-08-2015, 10:33 PM."Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

Thankyou it's hard to id because there are so many miridae bugs & their eyes could darken,i dont know? But they're not all pests, some eat whitefly larvae, haven't had any whitefly for about a month, might be luck though. As they're on sunflowers,I'm not too worried,l'l leave them to it. If the damage on the foliage is from them,it's very minimal anyway, they don't eat cucumber just bits of leaf.Location : Essex
