The numbers are in, the spreadsheet has been spread and I think I may have to change my signature - this year the slug count was a mere 2001
collected from the veg patch. Bit of a difference to 2013 when I removed over 14,000.
We have had a very very hot and dry summer here which will certainly have helped, but I like to think it is also down to improving habitats for the slug and snail eating beasts as well as nightly slug patrols. I have also ensured there is lots of mulch - the slugs seem to hide under this rather than getting right down into the soil and can then be easily found by the ever present blackbirds.
If we have another wet year (like 2013) it will be interesting to see what the numbers are like.
