The Results Are In!

The numbers are in, the spreadsheet has been spread and I think I may have to change my signature - this year the slug count was a mere 2001 collected from the veg patch. Bit of a difference to 2013 when I removed over 14,000.

We have had a very very hot and dry summer here which will certainly have helped, but I like to think it is also down to improving habitats for the slug and snail eating beasts as well as nightly slug patrols. I have also ensured there is lots of mulch - the slugs seem to hide under this rather than getting right down into the soil and can then be easily found by the ever present blackbirds.

If we have another wet year (like 2013) it will be interesting to see what the numbers are like.

I do admire you PP, I would lose count almost immediately if I tried to do this.

Even tough we have had a dry summer, I am convinced that your nightly search and destroy missions are responsible for the low numbers. When you think how many eggs a slug lays each adult removed from the gene pool makes a significant difference.
Over a couple of years you have single handedly decimated the local population!
