Have been overrun with ants in the greenhouse in the last couple of weeks. can anyone tell me what damage they do. I know there was some postings about ants before but i can't find them. Thanks.

Not sure as to damage done by ants but if you want rid, put a bottle of clove oil into a watering can of water and water the greenhouse - apparently that will get them on the move as they hate the smell.

Ant's don't actually eat plants. They cause damage by tunnelling beneath the roots of plants in borders, and can sometimes colonize large pots to make a nest. Regular watering and cultivation usually keeps them at bay. They also have a nasty habit of farming aphids, carrying them onto new plants where they breed, and the ants then milk them for the honeydew the aphids excrete. It's coming up to time for the ant larvae to mature and fly, those horrid big black things with wings which get absolutely everywhere.
