Courgettes? Looking bad!

OK My plant looks real bad but its still producing crop (not had any good size courgettes yet, but one is looking promising for dinner tomorrow!)

The dusty mouldy looking leaves, should I remove them?

Who else is grateful for the sun today??? My grass was a good foot long! Needs another going with the mower to look half way decent
I did manage to dig up our crop of earlies today - got just over 6lbs of potatoes... and had a little look at our carrots, we have a few small ones for dinner tomorrow (pictures on blog page)

Yesterday, my courgettes were like that. I cut the mildew leaves off [caused by being too wet], and all the little fruit that was over 2 inches. Today after the sun came out the rest of the fruits had grown considerably, and I was able to cut a few more off and use in tonight's meal [fried in olive oil, stuck a few just picked peas in and some balsamic vinegar - lovely]
I find with courgettes, don't wait for the first few fruit to grow to a decent size; once you start cutting them off [even thought they are small], the others start to grow faster. Same last year.

My courgette plants look worse than yours Witch, but they are still producing fruit. Awful as the weather has been from 4 plants I've still had all the courgettes I want to eat. If the leaves are rotten and beyond doing the plant any good I cut them off. The new ones come in healthy enough, then they get blasted. But we did have sunshine today - more please.

Thanks - I have noticed since getting rid of the first fruits (which didn't come to much) the plant has started to produce more!

As this is our first year we only have the one plant... think this is going to be a yearly thing as I love courgettes.

Will pick the largest one today I think and have it with our 2 runner beans lol

Mouldy leaves are going! (Are they ok to go in the compost?)

Jan - I wouldnt put the leaves in your compost, if theyve got mildew I dont think it would be a good idea. Stick them in the council brown bin! Bernie

We don't have one! Might have to get them to deliver one to us... they do, do them!

OK so leaves not in my compost! Thanks.. I would have put them in there otherwise.

Think the rule is, if its mouldy or diseased dont put it in your compost as it will "fester"! Bernie
