I could cry for this woman's loss, and the threat it poses to all of our darling Grannies Bonnets. Aquilegias are my favourite flower.

We have enough problems with existing diseases...never mind new ones!

After poppies aquilegia are my favourite flowers too. I have grown a load from seed last year that are looking great. I will keep a carefull eye on them. Such a shame

I remember seeing something like this last year and mentioning it to the biss last year. They are not my fave plant but I like to see them in other peoples gardens. Mind you, they are not common round here.

Most of my Aquilegias have this spring turned their toes up and died. A bit of research and it's the dreaded downy mildew.

There were signs of the disease on several plants last year but I didn't recognise what it was or the seriousness of it. The infection developed and became systemic on those plants.

The ones that are still alive this year seem to have the early signs, so I guess that's the end of Aquilegias in my garden.

Mine spread like mad and I have to treat them as weeds although nice looking ones ;-)

Mine have also self-seeded all over the place. Not much fun if they grow and die without ever producing any healthy flowers though

I've bought many seeds from UK, Touchwood Seed List, Unusual, Rare and Cottage Garden seeds. Aquilegia specialist, the garden in the article, and am really sorry to see that she is stopping selling seeds because of the disease.
I buy her Fantastic Forty for £15 - love the surprise of what she'll send. May have to buy another Forty for old times sake!

I've grown about 20 plants. some have been planted out and some are sitting in the cold frame waiting to be planted. I will be devastated if it comes here

Two of my plants look a little suspicious from a distance, I haven't checked them thoroughly because they're far away from others... And because I don't want it to be true..

I guess it's important to put the UK on quarrentine. Don't give any friends in foreign countries any seeds or plants, or anything that's been near them. Don't take any abroad and tell anyone abroad not to buy from here. EU free trade should exclude aqueligeas.

I'll check them tomorrow and if it is... That... Then they'll get dug up and burned. Rather than trying to save them.

I'd rather loose some Aquilegias than all of them in the country.
