Thanks again for the advice it is much appreciated. Garden Organic have a fact sheet (link below) which refers to early blight, apparently a different strain and not as bad, which occurs in July?

    Its very confusing.

Also another site is selling 'bordeaux mix' as a treatment for blight, sounds very much the same, but it comes with a warning about use near kids and animals.

    Thanks

      NN,
yep, early blight is caused by Alternaria fungus, same as Leaf Spot in cabbages and other brassicas. Looks totally different, round spots with circular rings (like the rings around the planet Saturn!). If infected badly, the rings can join together and it can look a bit like Late Blight. Not something to worry too much about, can sometimes see it in earlies if the leaves are starting to die off naturally.

Yeah, Bordeaux mix is similar to Burgundy mix except that it contains hydrated lime instead of the baking soda and it's usually made as a 2% solution and mixed 2:1 copper sulphate:hydrated lime). It doesn't mix as well as Burgundy mix and it will clog your sprayer.

The warning would be a normal requirement, given it contains copper (toxic to sheep and aquatic life) and lime

      Hope this helps,

I was on the plot last night and lopped the haulms (?) off completely on those that looked the worst. I posted a photo of one of teh bad ones on my blog. Not sure if it's the same thing, but it looks like blight to my untrained eye. Waddya reckon?

Sorry to hijack your post a bit Nick Nack...

No problem heywayne, only to glad to highlight the problem and if it helped to save your crop all the better.

          Good luck with your tatties.

Jondanie, thanks again. Lifted 50% of my potatoes last night currently in the shed drying out. Fingers crossed.
