  • I have Leaf Miner...

...on my apple tree's and cherry trees!

They are planted in tubs on my patio and one of the apple trees is full of fruit though there's nothing on the other 2 tree's except leaves.

However, most of the leaves on all the trees have brown 'snail trails' which I Googled and it seems I have Leaf Miner. It says that there is no 'antidote' for this and to remove the affected leaves. I'm happy to do this but it will mean that my trees will be fairly much bald

Would this be okay?? Will it hurt the trees to have no leaves?? Are they stupid questions

Also the tubs are next to each other and my tomatoes are close by...will it spread? Should I seperate the tubs?

Either pick the leaves off, spray with systemic insecticide, or leave them to get on with it.

Most trees can cope without most of their leaves, and it won't take long for them to grow back.

At the end of the day, deciduous trees do it voluntarily every year!

When I was actively into bonsai trees, it was an accepted practise to snip off all the leaves of some trees a few weeks before a photograph or a show. The leaves would then grow back and be in proportion to the rest of the tree, so timing it right was the key!

      I came, I saw, I stuck around.

Thanks folks ~ think I'll pull off all the infected leaves and see if I can find a spray..I have no problem using sprays (sorry organic people ) but am a little concerned that there is so much fruit on one of the tree's.

Might make the golf ball apples grow to a proper size..every cloud and all that!!

Anyone know if I should seperate the tree's? They are lined up next to each other next to my tomatoes ~ will it spread that way?

          Right I now have 3 baldy tree's

There has been a sighting of a huge ball of fire in the sky today...rumour has it that it's called..the sun !!

I also have lovely pink blossoms starting on my cherry tree so hopefully the trees won't spend their energy trying to replace leaves and just get on with making cherry's and fatter apples!!

I pulled some leaves off my tomatoes too..amhoping it's just wind damage and not little pesky miners
