Hello Hems and welcome to the Vine.
They look like bracket fungus which grow on decaying wood. I wouldn't worry about them.
      Are you in the UK?

Has anyone tried that link on RHS honey fungus page for Rogers Mushrooms Identification? Didn't work. http://www.rogersmushrooms.com/
Also tried via google, still no go.
Had loads of toadstools come up where beech roots cut but don't look like honey fungus.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.
I got a little bit of a shock when I saw the growth and was worried about my dog getting at it. Luckily she has been avoiding it and I'm glad this is nothing to worry about.
                      I'm in South Africa.

I assumed you were worried about the fungi in case it spread to other plants - and since it appears to be on a dead tree I wouldn't worry.
However, I wouldn't want a dog to eat any fungi, just in case.
I know absolutely nothing about the types of fungi you may get in South Africa - sorry.
