Can anyone identify this weed?

Can anyone identify this weed? It smells quite obnoxious.

For years it stayed as a patch in the shade below a lilac tree and I left it alone and it left me alone but the last couple of years it has been spreading through the garden. It has red flowers later in the year. It seems to creep a bit like nettles and can grow from fragments of root or seed.

It looks a bit like lemon balm....what does it smell like?

Stachys sylvatica - Hedge Woundwort. Its horrible, stinky and invasive. Satisfying to pull up a length of root though!

That was quick. Hedge Woundwort it is. Never heard the name before.

I tried putting stinky week into google but all I got offered was canabis plants and skunk.

I think it is up there with horsetail and couch grass in my plot.

I've got ground elder, nettles, mare's tail, docks, bindweed, chickweed, creeping buttercup, couch grass, cow parsley and Himalayan Balsam to name but a few...
