  • what is this

i have googled this for over an hour now to no avail so i thought i'd see if you guys knew
found on my willow and honey suckle

Don't know which type of caterpillar it is, but my advice is pull off the affected leaf and dispose of leaf and caterpillar, or just squish the caterpillar. Several caterpillars do this, making themselves a nice safe haven inside your plant leaves.

just a guess, but could be a leaf-roller moth (tortrix species) loads of different species but as found on willow i would suggest the Willow Tortrix (Epinotia cruciana) couldn't find a pic to go with this, but hopefully someone with more knowledge than me can enlighten us all.

My book gives several posiblities for Tortrix moths that could be found on willow

        Exapate congelatella, a mountain variety.
Acleris emargana, no the wing in July from a single brood

Could be a Cydia type - pea and codling moths to you and me - which 'got lost'!

Also possible, Olethreutes lacunara, a grassy biotope form.

If you google the names you might get pictures and better distribution maps than I have.
