I seem to have a bit of a black and white fly infestation. Can anyone recommend a good homemade recipe to use ? I've heard garlic good but not sure how best to make or apply it.

Leave it a week and you'll have a ladybird infestation and they will eat all your aphids.Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
Endless wonder.

Hoverfly and ladybird larvae will get the blackfly on the toms. Whitefly are a nuisance on brassicas, I get them too, but they don't really do much damage. Every once in a while I wave one of those yellow sticky cards over the brassicas, at the same time giving them a shake, which catches a lot of the little beggars.

I think any sort of spray or 'bug killer' should be a last resort, not a starting point.
Companion planting, wildlife friendly gardening, and encouraging insects like hoverflies and ladybirds has worked for me. Not overnight, but it has worked
Calendula Marigolds, Tagetes French Marigolds, Poached Egg Plants, Borage, Nasturtiums, Lavender etc

Also had some small sunflowers planted in same row as beans and noticed the aphids returned when I cut the sunflowers down.

I would never use those fly traps in the greenhouse.
The bees will become trapped on these as well.
Washing up liquid spray, garlic spray, and companion planting will sort it.
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
