Please can we have more? It can be a bit discouraging when all the sowing and planting instructions in magazines are too early for us, and I know it can be muddling for beginners - I've been gardening for years and it's still tempting to start too soon

Subscribers received it a few days ago, should be out on general sale today I think, usually on a Thursday. Also Free seeds this issue.

The lady who did the article won gardener of the year a few years ago, and bought up a 'failing' Nursery and turned it round into a decent business. She sometimes pops up on BBC gardening boards as Trillium. Very nice lady indeed.

Is it Sue Beesley? I went to her nursery the other week, I used to go there before she owned it too, she's very helpful , I bought a couple of plants & some 'Grow Your Own' goodies while I was there & made friends with 2 of her cats!

Well, I was in London for the day yesterday and it was practically tropical, well nearly, it was interesting to see Geranium plants growing away that had been left out all winter.

Glad to be home though. London + Traffic = uck.

My garden diary shows snow in May - in 2004 and 2005..

Londoners get snow once a decade and they think the world is coming to an end.. (And the Government pays its employees to get into work..!)

I totally agree with the comments about articles or in fact anything concerning growing for the north, especially the north west.

Most articles in magazines and also on tv seem to be restricted to gardens starting around the midlands and continuing south.

And it isnt just that, if you look for events happening or training events around the country the north is especially lacking in events.

Another thing that is especially annoying for me as someone who works in a school is that all of the programs that are advertised as initiatives to get school kids growing are aimed at the bottom half of the country, take for instance the RHS's campaign for schools the north west has only one venue and only two courses listed for 2009 where as the other areas have loads.

It just seems the north is always left out of things.

Another example is the BBC's Dig In campaign's uk tour, the only north west venue is manchester.

I was pretty North on Wednesday - Well - close to King's Lynn,

Anyway only just over another week and I'll be planting out. Thank god. They are all hardening overnight too now so practically ready, had none collapse in shock.

I totally agree. All the mags base their dates on the south of england, which is a real pain. I only started sowing my seeds two weeks ago and will not be planting out until early June. So PLEASE can I make a request that editors please think about those of us who are doing just the same as everyone else, but a few weeks behind.

Up here, though, we do have the advantage that once they do go out in early June we have 24 hour daylight to assist growing
