Question about timing and the dates of issues

Morning all,

After I finally got through the "filing" basket, I found the June edition of GYO so I popped out the back for a read and the following random thought popped into my head.

The magazine is shown as June but was released early May so when it says "plant now" does that mean I should have planted these things a month ago or is it for any time in the month of June?

I told you it was random!

No I dont think it is random, I was having the same thought yesterday!

I think the planting times are geared to the month the edition is for, not when it was released.

Magazines seem always to be released the month before.

On a similar topic has anyone noticed the diary series in Kitchen Garden mag? It's an allotment diary kept by a bloke and his lad. I can only think they must be time travellers though as the mag is always released the month before the month they're writing about (in the present tense, as it's happening right now) and hasn't even happened yet

Hi all,

The advice in the mag is always for the cover-dated month (e.g. in the August issue 'plant now' means plant in August even though the magazine's sold in July).

By always putting the magazine on sale a month ahead, we hope that readers will have chance to order in any seeds or gardening gear they'll need in plenty of time.

It's also good news because it means I can still order and plant more sweetcorn seeds. The 20 plants I already have in just aren't enough!
