What are you most looking forward to growing this year?

At the allotment group that I volunteer at we are planning to have a go at growing 'Home Guard' potatoes. I read about this variety in a reprint of a book by wartime garden writer, Mr Middleton. My dad vaguely remembers people growing this variety when he was just a kid.

And aside from potatoes I want to grow celeriac from seed - wish me luck

Marge, I was gifted some home guard seed last year. They grew ok but were very wet and tasteless. If you want a tasty easy to grow early, try red duke of york.

Broad beans - overwintered ones looking good - can't wait for a nice early crop.
Sweetcorn - disaster last year, so ding ding round 2 this year!

I'm determined that this will be the year I successfully grow carrots. Previously they've either been infested with carrot fly, ended up all leaf and no root or failed to germinate completely. I know they're probably not cost effective to grow as they're only about 49p a kilo from the supermarket but they're such a staple it seems silly to buy them when I've got all this space to grow.

They taste so much better too.

Peas, enough to freeze. Not just eat straight from the pod.

I feel like I need a bit of a rest this year: last year I was busy from dawn to dusk, with the home gardens, my lotty, and 3 school gardens. I didn't get much time to sit in my hammock admiring the view.

I think I will not do carrots this year (they were nearly ALL maggotty again, despite netting) and instead do half of my lotty with French beans.

The 1/2 acre meadow area in the garden is currently being dug up to allow me to sow seeds - I have a huge box of annuals and pots of seedlings too. It will be spectacular (she says confidently!).
Hopefully by the summer the bees will have 'grown' me some honey to harvest too

I'm excited about growing everything. This will be our first full in year with our garden and I have spent waaaaay too much on seeds

I'm really looking forward to our first early potatoes (have four varieties chitting away in our spare bedroom) and trying our first tomatoes. Mr Peppermint is going to build a shed with a lean to greenhouse, but it probably won't be ready for this season. So I'm growing 6 Latah tomato plants on my window sill in the hope I can put them outside later on.

Anything scented really. Lavender, sweet peas, roses - It's been a long Winter and just looking forward to watching the new growth again and 'reclaiming' the garden.

Agreed...but I need to work on the preserving aspect as my last attempt failed miserably.
Cucumbers transformed into the most wonderful dill pickles is my primary goal.

I've just got an allotment so I'm looking forward to growing everything this year, but I'm especially looking forward to putting in some Jerusalem Artichokes later in the year. I've never grown them before and I've already picked a spot.

Now I just need to get hold of some tubers

Well I was looking forward to climbing french and runner beans, but they haven't grown more than three inches in the last month due to the weather, so I don't know if they'll ever get to the top of the canes! You can't beat the taste of fresh young runners, I won't touch the leathery old examples sold in the shops, there's no comparison!
