Magazine early this month...

I received the next month's mag yesterday morning - the 39th October - and this is about a week earlier than usual. Does anyone have any idea why this might be? Also, why do mags come out so early for the cover date? We've now got the December issue and even if you scope this four weeks hence, it'd still only be the end of November, and then another would be due out. It's not just GYO who does this and the practice seems to be general across the trade, but why does this happen?...

I think you have a different calendar to mine! We've not had the 39th of October yet! Perhaps Leeds is a world of it's own?

Mine arrived yesterday too. Another monthly gardening magazine I subscribe too took the decision a few years ago to publish with the cover date at the beginning of the actual month, so November has arrived. But most magazines are ahead of themselves.

I remember the "other" magazine taking that decision. It was a brave move but it does make the contents far more relevant than reading what to do in a couple of months time.
I'll have forgotten what I'm supposed to do in December in a week or two. This is where a good Gardening Year book has the edge on a monthly mag

why do mags come out so early for the cover date?

it's to give the longest shelf life, and to plan ahead. If you were to buy the October issue on 29th Oct, you have only 2 days to get all the October jobs done

if i remember the magazine as is another that i have always delivered for the first friday in the month. hence delivered in time for said date friday 1st November......
