  • Trampoline frame raised bed - Ideas please.

    My next wacky recycling idea
Take one metal tube trampoline base approx 12' diameter, and 2'6" high.
My idea is to construct it on some weedy ground, wrap chicken wire around the outer framework to keep out the rabbits, and partially fill the interior, lasagne style through the winter. Netting over the top, maybe, in the summer.
I need ideas on how to plan the space inside. The area is too great to be able to reach the centre over the sides (as you would with a raised bed) and my little legs have difficulty climbing over 2'6" on a regular basis
I could dig a trench to set it in, and lower it, but there are so many tree roots and rocks that it may be impossible to level it.
As for the interior, it could have a keyhole in the middle, perhaps, or have spokes across it like a wheel. I'd like maximum growing space, with ease of access and minimal work!
Dear Brainy Grapes, what suggestions do you have (apart from scrapping it)?

My plot neighbour has a massive trampoline frame. Have thought about asking him if I could use it for a small poly frame.

Pointless post. Why did I post this?

    *scratches head*.

try this, does not need to be the whole width, only part way as per orange plank, can be moved to other side when needed,to get up,you need some steps, plus a good kneeling pad,or a lilo and lay face down on it to reach out, failing that,a hand held litter picker,a crane to hover over at a suitable height,or steps then stepping stones dotted about, you also would maybe like to consider a safety barrier around the perimeter,it would then double up as part scafolding for your netting,

Thanks for the Piccy, Lottie, its all very clear now! Would you like an overhead camera as well so that you can watch me fall in? Now there's a thought - a pond

or a cooling of pool for those scorching welsh summers,a bit of early protection for plants, turn it on it's side, fixed down, would make a garden feature with climbing plants, like looking through the round window, also make a quick cold frame with a cover on,or a leave mould collection point,if i think of more i will tell you lol

Thanks, Lottie, you're such an inspiration
At the moment, I'm still trying to find a moderately sunny spot where I can put it, and the only bit I can think of is where the bonfire heap is, but I have to move that before I can burn it in case there's something living in there - the dog thinks there is! Nothing is straightforward

Would it be possible to make an access wedge in the frame for you to walk to the middle (as you would a slice of cake)...........An no, I've not been on the bottle.......

Thanks BM! All the parts of the frame interlock to make it solid. If I could weld (big if that) I could cut part of the top bar out - but I can't. I can't find a photo of a similar trampoline and its not the sort of thing that is easy to put together, especially single handed. (I know I have 2 hands but it really needs 4!). Maybe I'll assemble a couple of bits, just to give you an idea.
As for the interior, at the moment I think there could be a raised bed, about 3-4' wide, around the outer edge with an empty bid in the middle and just one access path to it. Like a keyhole.
Does that make sense - and I haven't been on the bottle either!

Its like this Trampoline Safety Anatomy of a Trampoline I could turn it upside down, and walk in through a gap, but then it wouldn't have a top rail to support the chicken wire and wouldn't look so good!

Might work out easier if it was upside down then you could have a door and use wire across the remaining gaps.

Had a look on google and found this image, they've halved the frame and turned it into a tunnel :-

uses old trampoline frame - Google Search

Some photos! There are 3 straight base bits (like a W) and 6 curved top bits (like an L).
Turning it upside would mean it wasn't a circle, more of a hexagon
Like the tunnel, Bren, but it seems to need 8 top bits.

I also have the upright poles that slot into the curved bits to support the netting. So could turn it into a cage too

I now have the same problem.....an ex trampoline! The wind blew the thing over and wrecked the frame last windy winter!

I was thinking I could turn it upside down and create a wigwam with up supports in the joints that connect to the legs?

Or find another one and make join the two together with scaffold poles giving a cylindrical frame for a poly or fruit cage?

And yes.....I've been on the sauce!
