Would anyone like to try their hand at growing saffron?

I've just finished planting up my saffron beds for the year and I have a small gravel tray full of spares.

The caveat is that these are smaller corms. They most likely won't flower this year, but if you put them in a nice well-fed bed/large pot that gets winter sun they will bulk up and you will have corms big enough to flower next year. They need to go in the ground asap, and I don't have room for more than one nursery pot on my plot.

They're divided into packs of about 20 corms each.

I would like the costs of p&p reimbursed. This is £4.50 including small parcel 2nd class signed for. Or you send me an SAE (for a small parcel).

(mods is this ok to post still?)

Same rules apply as per VSP - 50 posts over last 3 months. I'll be composting whatever remains on 4th September.

No skill required, but you do have to be out in all weathers to pick 'em. Not always the most fun...

Now I'm at Peak Corm (!) I can't imagine I won't be doing this again. They are worse than rabbits for slyly multiplying.

Yes, should do, though I'm a lot further south than you! They might need some cloche protection. It also depends on the size of the pots how well they do - they dwindle in small pots, which means no flowers.

I'd be really interested to hear how they do for you. I don't know anyone growing it that far north.

Will keep you advised. The problem here is we get weather...that's it just weather so who know what will happen! Would love to see them grow.
Meant to ask, as I've just planted these bulbs this year will they flower this Autumn or will it be next?

If you've bought them from a good supplier they should flower this year. Best picked before 10am when they do emerge.
