A friend came round yesterday. Offered to do some ploughing for me. Managed to persuade him not to do my veg patch but to have a go at what we call field two. Not really a field, maybe 20 x 50 metres. I'll use some for the permanent cucurbit beds and sow the rest with flowers for the bees. Soft fruit to go in eventually.
Said friend was on form, but worried about the lack of rain. We've had quite a few days, but none of the huge, long downpours we'd normally get at this time of year. Me, I'm going to carry on as planned. If I didn't, I'd never get anything done. But he's right: the well level is well below where it would have been at this time a few years back.
I showed him the grey fly on my brassicas. He said he'd never seen them before and that if he hadn't seen them for himself, he wouldn't have believed it possible. So, where do they come from I ask myself. Maybe I have the whole Spanish population of grey fly right here.
