Haven't updated this for a bit, so thought I'd catch up.
Still got a bit more land to clear, but the veg patch up by the house is getting towards sorted. Some plants are behind but that's par for the course for me. Still can't make my mind up about clearing a couple of beds down in the fields. To be honest, shifting all the muck required seems more effort than I want to make. But it would give me breathing space for more leeks, and would free up space for autumn carrots and beetroots. Still got a couple of weeks or so before I need to make a final decision.
Home-grown tom plants are looking great. Flowers on the all of them. The interplanted basil isn't doing so well. Something's eating it. Killed a huge locust yesterday in that area of the veg patch, so that could have been the culprit. The nightly snail hunting expeditions seem at last to be working. I was beginning to think that all I was doing was clearing one lot, only for another load to move into the vacant territory.
Pepper plants have suffered the same depredations as the basil. Possibly the same pest. Got flowers on the aubergine plants, so I must get some stakes in quickly to support them and the peppers. Two cayenne pepper plants this year, grown from seed.
The supposed Black Beauty courgette plant has an open flower today. But not a male flower anywhere near ready. This and the Soleil plant have lots of as yet undeveloped flowers but the leaves don't look very healthy. Have already started another of each, but might go for an extra one of each, just in case.
The potatoes have taken. Thanks, Nicos.
Lots of beans and peas in the ground. Climbing beans are starting to look crispy and unhappy with the hot, windy conditions. No surprises there.
And plenty of brassicas already in the ground for late summer consumption.
Loads of plants still in modules to go out. Need to sow winter cabbages, more sprouts (Trafalgar haven't germinated), autumn broccoli and more herbs and flowers.

#2Snoop Puss commented07-06-2021, 12:39 PMEditing a commentNot so far, but I'm planning to this year over some salad beds this year to see how it goes. The trouble is that I live in a valley in what is already a windy area. It'll be interesting to see how netting will cope.
