  • Dorset Naga - Why are the leaves wilting - now burnt?

    Hi all,

So my Dorset Naga plants were doing so well, but I've noticed on two of them (the relatively smaller too) the leaves are wilting. What could be causing this? I've added some pics.

    Please help!

Looks like they are not getting enough water at some times. Might be worth standing them on a tray full of gravel and watering from that - then they can keep taking it up continuously.

I wouldn't worry about it to much. Your chillies are looking good apart from a couple of wilty leaves.
Mine do that sometimes if they get to hot. And if you want your chillies to be really hot when you harvest them you have to treat them a little mean! By letting them almost dry out between watering.
I feed once a week and water only once a week. I'm not after the top end of the Scoville scale with each variety.

Actually they do look healthy, are they kept outside, indoors?
        How big are the pots?
        How often are you watering?
Can we have a side in view of the plant, including the pot?

It's a tricky one because it could be overwatering or underwatering. It could be too cold or too hot.

How long have they been in those pots? If relatively recently they could still be getting used to their new boots.

Unless you are 100% sure they've not been overwatered, I would probably dry them out until the pot feels light when you lift it and the leaves start to wilt from thirst. Then resume watering.

I water about three times a week: once mixed with fertiliser (Chilli Focus). When feeding I use plenty of water such that a lot of water drips out of the bottom.

                - They have been kept inside. It's only when there is direct sunlight in my garden and not too windy I sit them out for a few hours.

                - Pots are: 280mm (h) x 254mm (diameter) 9.03L for Two of them. They were moved up from 5 litre pots last Thursday. The other is still in a 5 litre pot as I wanted one of them to give me chillies quicker while the other two grow.

                - I water 3 times a week. Sometimes less than that.

                - I'll send some pics

They've been in the new pots since Thursday. I have been reading a lot about the tendency of newbies overwatering so erred on the side of caution and have only been watering when the pot feels light and dry (about 3 times a week now). Could it also be caused by over feeding? (I'm using Chilli Focus but strictly following the guidelines provided)

I'm going to bow out of this one, as you seem to have a few genuine chilli experts involved now - Happy Gardening ;-)

Why? Your just washing the feed straight out again before the plants have had chance to take up any of the good stuff.
They are probably just getting used to there new pots as they've not been in them long. And you may be over watering a little. I'd miss out one watering session a week. Just see how it goes.

Silly me! Here's me thinking giving them "more" is better.

If you overwater the pots the roots will rot and the plant will die.
If you underwater the pots the plant will wilt but with a good soak the plant will revive.
More plants die from overwatering than underwatering.
                          Good luck, they look fine.

You know the smaller plant, the roots are all poking out the bottom. I want this one to produce fruit earlier than the others, so I'm going to leave it. That's ok right? I'm assuming there comes a time when the roots show at the bottom but you just leave it like that?

                              naga plant leaves burning?!

                              Hi all,

yet another post with a question from me.

I have noticed some yellowing on the leaves of one of the my naga plants. I've attached pics. What is causing this and how do I solve it?
