Now then Piglet me owd son. I always understood that there is a finite life to a bunch of mistletoe. According to legend where I come from, when you claim a kiss, you remove a berry. When there are no berries left, it's used up! Therefore you make sure it is well berried and if necessary you hang on to a few for the kisser of your dreams.

Well, Flum, I never knew that!

But looking at that fine bunch that PW has above his kisser, he's still in for a pretty good kissing session.

Very impressive - are they all your own or did you buy them?

i got arrested once for asking a policewoman to kiss me under the mistletoe
thing is, the mistletoe was tucked in my belt buckle
no sense of humour those policewomen ..........

I counted 643 berries so there are plenty to go round.

And yes, they are my own teeth.

Sure you're not pulling them off then sticking them back on the other side

ANyone know where this tradition came from by the way - not that PW cares especially ... !

Don't know but it's one I've grown up with and always known. In a bad year it makes certain you make each kiss count!

Decided to try the local Sunday market (my usual source of a bunch of mistletoe) yesterday, in order to make the house festive for Madmax coming home on Thursday. You should have seen the scabby, pathetic twigs of mistletoe I was offered for 3 quid!! Let's just say Piglet's bunch would have cost me about 300 quid!!! Anyone know an online place to buy mistletoe or am I destined to have a snog-free home this Christmas?

According to the ever reliable wikipedia the tradition originates as follows:

Nowadays, mistletoe is commonly used as a Christmas decoration, though allusions to mistletoe as a Christmas green were rare into the eighteenth century.[5] Viscum album is used in Europe whereas Phoradendron serotinum is used in North America. According to a custom of Christmas cheer, any two people who meet under a hanging of mistletoe are obliged to kiss. The custom is English, rather than Scandinavian in origin.[6]

According to custom, the mistletoe must not touch the ground between its cutting and its removal as the last of Christmas greens at Candlemas; mistletoe might remain hung through the year, often to preserve the house from lightning or fire, until it was replaced the following Christmas Eve.[7]. The tradition has spread throughout the English-speaking world but is largely unknown in the rest of Europe. The appearance and nature of the fruit's content (viscin) is very similar or suggestive of human semen and this has strengthened its pagan connections.

Now, how many kisses have you got left PW? Am I gonna queue for long?
