Get some stainless steel pans Jackie. They clean up beautifully, even if you do manage to burn them. My worst case of lighting the wrong gas ring was when I meant to put the kettle on, and lit the gas under the frying pan instead!! Not much oil in it thank goodness, but you should have seen the flames. The kids screamed, and the dog hid for a week!!

whatever you use, put it in and heat it, it will NOT get rid of all of it, in time maybe, but not at once, but.... you can at least be sure what is left is 'clean' and wont add burny taste to whatever you cook in it.
trust me on this, a lifetime in kitchens and the blackened pans produce the best tasting food, the chinese dont strip their woks, they rinse and oil.Last edited by BrideXIII; 07-11-2008, 09:04 PM.Vive Le Revolution!!!'Lets just stick it in, and see what happens?'Cigarette FREE since 07-01-09

Ok, well I can do it little and often. We don't wash our wok really...we just wipe it until it's clean and then my OH oils it or something....I leave it to her!
But, the food tastes good! So, perhaps the same will apply to this brown bottomed pan!!!I love to talk about nothing. It's the only thing I know anything about!!

Smells disgusting, but try simmering some vinegar for a bit~all depends tho' I think on how old the burn. But as Bride says,if you've scrubbed it then you know it's clean so carry on using.I only stop using burnt pans when the bottoms start detaching themselves from the rest of the pan!(& apparently pasta's the easiest dish!!!Always catches me out!!)the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.
Happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have.xx
