Terrible news to report I'm afraid - which I hope you won't mind me sharing here: Phil Hendy, the 75 year old who gave me my allotment key this time last year, has died following an assault here in Bristol, early on a Sunday morning two weeks ago, when he was stabbed outside a newsagent.
Phil was the allotment rep for years, a cheery soul whose shocking murder has greatly upset the local community in Greenbank.

There was a film crew by the allotment gate as I left this morning and a persistent hack wanted me to give them access to film. I was - am - shocked and didn't want to co-operate, partially out of respect for Phil, who advised me not to let in anyone who I didn't know.

Should anyone want to know more, I'd suggest searching the local press.

    Take care.

So very sad, I heard about this in the news and thought how terrible that an older man was attacked in such away. Even sader when you learn what a lovley person he was.

Love and thoughts to his friends and family, Mandy

How very sad that a man who sounds like he made other folks lives better should be 'rewarded' in this way.

Well done for ignoring the press too - I know they want to report the story but a touch of sensitivity wouldn't go amiss would it

          Another blow to the heart.
I really hope that the perpetrators are found and that friends and family can find some peace at the end of such a terrible event.
It is always shocking to lose friends unexpectedly and without reason. Wishing all his friends and family comfort at this sad time.

My sympathy as well, my family live in the Bristol area so I know parts of it quite well.

A horrible thing but you were certaintly right to refuse entry to the press - my thoughts and prayers to his family and you and all his friends.
The weeks and the years are fine. It's the days I can't cope with!

My sympathy too - it is always so sad to hear such a thing has happened, but when you know the person, it must be heart wrenching.

That's really awful to hear - I'm so sorry. What a waste!
Nothing more I can say really, except that it does put certain things in to perspective.

What a horrible thing to happen to such a lovely person, but then there are so many awful things happening we should'nt be surprised anymore. My sympathy to those he has left behind.

Very sad to hear your news. It seems so unfair when those with much to offer are taken, especially in such a pointless and tragic way.
