I had mine on the 4th Oct.

Our Dr's do 2 consecutive Saturdays from 9am to 2pm.

Outside there is one of those big banner things and posters everywhere.

I've had mine .....like others I've only had proper flu once a good few years ago & it was awful could barely crawl to the bathroom. I work in a hospital & based in a cancer centre (not a medic) but think that I should try and protect patients and myself wherever possible (we use the same lifts/canteen/etc) & as part of my role I meet & interact with patients.

Anyway a nurse appeared at my door & said are you're having this flu jab??? didn't like to refuse

I may be stating the bleeding obvious (moi? never!) - but is this to do with the qualifying age range?

Doubt it, it always used to be fight to the death in my nan's post office on pension day. More likely that people waiting for flu jabs aren't ill but are getting preventative medicine. People in general doctors waiting rooms have a variety of ailments and associated worries and stresses which doesn't necessarily translate into patient behaviour.

Our lot seemed quite well behaved except for one lady who was shouting that she should have the doctor do the injection as they were amply qualified and that she should go into the privacy of the consultation room. This is even though she had removed her cardie and had an arm all exposed and ready.

I put her behaviour down to the fear of needles.

I don't think it can be age. The general waiting always has a large number of older people and they can be perfectly vile just like anyone else!

I suspect it is because we don't have appointments. If it looks very busy we can just wander off and come back later. Also, as Alison has pointed out, none of us are unwell.

The Dr's honed today - after having spit and blood tests done on Tues the results are in and we both have some form of flu. Thankfully, most of the teeth have been taken out of it, probably due to a previous injection but I still feel like crop, even with the antibiotics.

I wondered about that as well VC.

I have never been ill before and I have had loads of jabs but I suppose it depends upon the viral content of the injection.

I've been having a think about it this morning as I splut on the sofa.....

Whether or not this years injeccie has caused this bout of flu, for me, is irrelevant.

Whatever strain of it I have I know that at some point over the years I have had a flu injection that is doing me real favours now by lessening the effect of the virus.

20 years ago I ended up in hospital with a machine to help me breathe. a drip in each arm and the annoying sounds of constant beeps. This time I feel grotty but I know that I won't end up the same.

So next year I will go and have my jab as I never know when I could pick up something else.

I only just coped 20 years ago when I was healthier and I will take anything the medics can give me to prevent 'Flu' being the cause of stay in hospital.

Sorry to hear youre feeling Poorly Lumpy. Hope youre fit and well again soon.
If its any consolation, the weather is a bit on the miserable side this morning so youre not missing anything by being indoors.

Lumpy, the flu vaccine doesn't contain any live viruses so cannot have caused any of your symptoms, that's a coincidence. I believe it takes about 10 to 14 days to become effective but then will work well if there is a match so could well have reduced your symptoms. As you say, full blown flu makes you feel like your dying.
