Didn't really know where to put this, so sorry mods if it's in the wrong place.
Interesting article from BBC Wales, enouraging Welsh AM's to GYO!

BBC News - Julie Morgan AM calls for Welsh assembly allotment

For those who know Cardiff, the Sennedd is situated in quite close proximity to, shall I say, less affluent areas (ie Butetown and Grangetown). My point is wouldn't this land be better used for those local residents to be given the chance to grow veggies there?

If it comes from a plant, eat it. If it was made in a plant, don't!!

Hi MM. I saw that article too. You can bet that that land is far too valuable a piece of real estate for it to turn into an allotment - for anyone, AM's, employees or the local residents. However, if it raises awareness of the need for allotments then that's another issue and I wish Julie Morgan every success on that score.

Yes I'd heard about this. TBH I don't think it has to be an either/or re who actually gardens the land. However in principle I agree with you: Grangetown/Butetown/Riverside don't have allotments iirc so locals should get a chance to be involved.

Also agree that the land will be hard to turn into plots but feel that if anyone can manage it, hopefully its the Senedd.

Cardiff desperately needs more allotments! Insane waiting lists right now, can't believe people are waiting years for a plot!

Hello Edith - I don't think we've "met" before but I'm another Cardiffian! Pleased to meet you The allotment waiting list seems to be a problem in a lot of the UK. We need better legislation that places an onus on Local Authorities to provide allotments close to the areas where there is a demand. Something to ask our Assembly members!!
