Do I start the kale yet?

I've got a collection of different types of kale to see us through the winter and have been trying to hold myself back from starting it off as I've started everything else too early (newbie gardener excitement!). The packets say mid to late spring...so I'm trying to hold out a week or 2 more

Has anyone started theirs yet?

I planted a load of kale seeds in modules about a week or so ago, not grown it before but the packet said April / May so it seemed a good time. It's come through nicely and will be planted out in a couple of weeks time when it's a bit bigger.

I'm in the process of sowing all my brassicas....Kale is in the next batch.

A week or two shouldn't really matter if you need to hang on though.

Last year I did mine end of June and it was fine. Did it with cima so rape and I'm still eating that now!

I have just started to sow all my winter brassicas -sprouts and swedes are in, savoy cabbages sown, still got kale, winter cabbages and PSB to sow. Celeriac is nearly all planted out. leeks are thriving in one litre pots prior to planting out. Am also now looking at other winter crops - cauliflowers and various salad type stuff for the tunnel.

Excellent, will start the kale this weekend. Leeks are teeny grass like seedlings, not likely to have much success with them.

It's OK for leeks to look like grass at the moment, you've got plenty of time.

Don't be daft, they are still babies.

They take 9-12 months to get fully sized.
