  • Are vines safe over winter?

    Hello all,

I have a potted vine that was bought from Homebase during the summer months.

Will it need protecting especially since it's now getting colder?

The leaves are already changing from green to a light green/yellow colour. It's a black grape variety

It will be fine although I don't know where you are,if you're near Essex it will be fine. You could edit your profile to add your location. When I first bought my grape,I didn't even plant it or pot it up the first year,it stayed in it's tiny pot til the next year & it's a glorious vine now,I wouldn't do that again & don't recommend it to anyone but it survived my neglect.
Edit to add leaf loss is normal...

Profile now edited (I live in Hertfordshire) and thanks for the reassurance. The vine is in a fairly sheltered spot. Think I'll cover the surface of the pot with mulch to help the plant along during winter.

Here in Nottm I have a mate who has a vine in the boarder of a south facing wall, been there about 10 years as far as I know.
