Test run of run!

Not quite finished the chick's run as yet as I need to flag the base but thought I would let them have a test drive of it in the sunshine.

I'm glad I did as they promptly pointed out a few design faults with my recycled netting ................by escaping. I reparied the exit points, (rather untidily but they are at the back of the run so it doesn't matter so much)
First one is a general piccie of chicks enjoying the sunshine (it started to rain later so I had to grab them quickly and put them inside coop!) Second piccie is of my salmon faverole cockerel (one of two) Piccie three shows hastily made repairs to back of run

No idea........someone had chucked it in skip all crumpled up! I just flattened it out the best I could!

Have you ever seen the tubular framed mesh panels that are used to temporarily screen off building sites and such like? they usually stand the legs in large weights! Well it appears to be the mesh cut out of these. The joints break a bit easily for my liking......but beggars can't be choosers!

Had a quick google of Heras and yes, it appears to be the same stuff! It's strength is in the frame though methinks!

dear snadger.
.....my hens would get out of that ....through the gaps in the netting.....i believe the stuff that i use is called chicken wire ...and i think its called chicken wire cos its for use with chickens??
However brilliant use of recycled stuff...here nobody throws anything away ....we never ever see things chucked out ...i'm trying to find pallets ...a neighbour had one or two but otherwise ....nada...

Problem with chicken wire Jardie is that foxes can easily rip their way through it
The thickness of Snadger' wire would - I think -be exceptionally difficult to get through.
I have bantams and they can get through a gap of 10cm square- but I think Snadgers are bigger.
His holes are tall and thin- so do you think that would make it easier to get through???
we're all on a learning curve here...it'll be interesting to see if Snadge has a Houdini in his bunch!!!

This may be a situation meritting both types of 'wire'. The tough stuff to keep foxes out AND the chicken wire to keep chooks in? Just a thought......
