As Hilary has said they are not (according to DEFRA) supposed to be fed anything that has been in a kitchen, so it doesn't matter whether it is leftovers or bought and prepared especially for them, even if you are veggie or vegan (though I suppose if you were vegan you wouldn't be keeping chooks

Therefore, as I understand it... cabbage leaves from the garden are ok, cabbage from your fridge isn't.
I do tend to go with the bolt the stable door after the horse has disappeared over the horizon school of thought, and that as usual the subsequent rules tend to be a bit OTT, but there are serious potential consequences (see the ham sandwich/pig example) and so even if I were to feed kiwi fruit peel, for instance, to my girls
