is it me and I love my chucks, but just when you think things are going okay, everything, inc the $%!& hits the fan....probably over reacting, but sometimes thats how I feel.

Souffle has not laid for 2 weeks and looks very sad, she had an antibitic injection and has perked up,

Henna lost all her feather round her neck and had a sneeze. She then has produced snot.

Roxy has a swollen eye....

this chicken keeping isnt as easy as I thought! and growing attached to them doesnt help in the slightest!

I like your chicken names. They do sound like they need a vet to have a look or if you give more detailed symptoms someone might be able to offer better advise than me, I haven't kept chickens for long.

Think I'd be inclined towards vet advice and a few days Tylan for them all. In meantime garlic or Respite in water.

I took your recommendations on board and went to see my vet, she's a friend although hates treating chickens!! she prefers Cows and sheep!

Anyway, spoke with her and she has suggested 5 days of tylan, as you had suggested!

Hopefully she has said this will stem the infection and things its come from the incoming birds I got in March - as some have had coughs and sneezes off and on since.

Roxy's face has gone down, after several cool pads last night to try and cool/bath her face, henna is still coughing and now chicken joe has snot!, so probably best to this stuff down them quick

Just felt a bit under the weather with it all, my friends said she never has any problems with her chickens, and that I look after them too well, in cotton wool.

quick question.......it tells me 0 egg withdrawl, but the vet said you cant eat the eggs while they are on the medicine?

Think RH said on another thread that its a weeks withdrawal. TBH I'd go with what the vet said.

Chooks dont become ill because they are too well cared for, either one of your newbies brought something with them, or one of your older girls was carrying something without falling ill themself, or the wild birds etc have brought something in. It happens to us all, there seems to be a spate of coughs sneezes etc going round this area too.
You do seem to have had your share of bad luck lately, but hopefully all will sort itself out now..so cheer up.
Even I nearly threw the towel in last week...but this week things are on the up, so you aren't the only one. Although it sure feels like it when all is going crooked.

My sympathies tick9, that's just how I feel at the moment. I added two little while ago and I've problems ever since(see my post 'I'M begining to wish....')
Hopefully things will improve now you've got antibiotics. Did you get it for all of them?
One of original girls is just not right. She's slow and hunched up. I've wormed but seen no sign of dead ones, she has no other symptoms but has lost weight and not laying. Any ideas?

My vet told me not to eat the eggs during treatment or for a week after treatment. The label on my tub has now ripped and I cannot read the small print about the egg withdrawal!

i've checked both on the label and also on the poultry site which had the tylan isted. Its zero egg withdrawl, but the vet stated not to eat the egg while they are having the medicine which is for 5 days.

However if you are giving them more than 0.5g per litre then there is a further withdrawl

Souffle is very poorly, and I cant see the problem/ She isnt laying and hasnt for 2 weeks now, she looks like she may be moulting, but is hunched up. she is sat with her head under her wing in the nest box this morning. A soft egg was found last night and could certainly be hers as the others had laid.

Could she have another soft egg backing up? If you think she's well enough you could try the warm bath treatment. You'd have to gauge the temperature of the water carefully depending on how warm it is with you! Here's hoping she pulls through for you.

Its possible, we think she burst one inside of her last week, so she had antibiotic injection and this helped. But she back to square one again

She had trouble when I first got her with laying and a bath seemed to work, so it may help again,

Update:

My little Roxy's face has gone down and a,though she was very hot for a few days her face is returning slowly to her not so red face.

A few sniffles still from a couple but certainly havent seen snotty noses as before, so the talin is working

Now, Souffle? she looks like she has lost some feathers but is rapidly growing them back, I saw some beauties under neath, but still now laying? unless they are soft still - any ideas?

I had the problem a while back and started spreading grit on the floor as she doesnt seem to pick it up from the feeders?

I sometimes use the bird grit for cage birds specially for my younger birds. Maybe you could mix some with their corn as someone was doing on an earlier thread or mix a bit of cod liver oil, grit and corn to encourage her to eat more grit/shell

That's such good news. And you know now that there are no obstructions inside too. Chooks are just as worrying as children!
