everyone can grow them, right? I put some seeds in about 6 weeks ago into a bed out the front - not a sausage. planted another batch about 4 weeks ago into egg boxes and put them in the cold frame - they're all coming up fine. do I reckon the ones in the bed have rotted away in the cold, or am I just being impatient? I'm out there with the magnifying glass every morning!!! admittedly they are hard to see as they are very darkleaved, but the ones in the eggboxes are a pretty decent size now...

I planted some of mine on the windowsill and these have shot up. Now in the greenhouse before I plant them out. I also planted some directly into the ground and one was starting to show through yesterday. I think it's about three or four weeks since I planted them. I would give it a while longer before giving up on them.

Don't panic F&VV - I'm sure the nasturtiums you planted in the bed will show up soon. I planted some out at the beginning of April and mine are just coming through now.

I find the ones I plant direct in the garden take ages. In fact I have normally forgotten about them and then they start to sprout. So don't give up yet!

Hi Jenny, I usually soak them in warer for about 24 hours, then plant in modules in the greenhouse. When grtminated and with about 2 pair of true seed leaves i plant them out. I planted mine out last week and theyre doing fine so far.

When mine flower I leave the seeds to drop and then just push them into the soil, I always get some of them coming up the following year.

I'm with you except I just let the seeds fend for themselves - I find that they will germinate in more than sufficient numbers if left to Mother Nature

Sure your nasturiums will come fine. I collect the seed from one year to another but the ones I miss pop up themselves but come later than the ones I plant. The seeds I collect I soak for 24 hours then place on a tray of wet kitchen paper until the wee wrigglies (roots and shoots ) appear out of them. I plant them at that stage in pots and in the garden and they appear almost instantly.

Thanks Bramble - hadnt thought of soaking the seeds. I have just sown some climbers in Jiffy 7s, but don't usually start the main lot until May. I can't plant anything out really until June and I find they grow like mad in the polytunnel before that!

I normally poke a few into the window boxes when I plant them up at the end of May and find that when the first plants are dying off, the nasturtiums are ready to take over.

Whats not to like. They're the cheeriest brightest splash of color on a dull day.You could'nt help but like them.
