  • Too late to grow cut flowers

Hi everyone that knows about flowers!

Is it too late to start growing flowers at my allotment. If not what should I be planting? Bulbs? seeds?

I don't really know what I want butvthought I would give it ago!

    Any help appreciated

Hi Newton, by no means am I an expert (very new) but I see no one else has answered..

This is going to depend entirely on what you want to grow and apart from the obvious, I have no idea what plants are used for cut flowers.

There are plenty of autumn and winter flowering plants out there though, Hyacinths for example, in fact a quick Google of "late flowering plants" (limited to UK) returns a company selling Hyacinth bulbs. They flower from Dec-Jan and need to be planted by Sept 21st.

So, with careful selection I'm sure you've got plenty of time left!

Thanks for the reply......flowers are not my thing yet!! I have successfully grown nasturtiums from seed. But you can eat them! And marigolds........I am becoming more adventurous now.......but I will now plant fennel where my flowers were going to go......I think.....decisions!

Look in your pound shops, they have a lot of useful things - I got some half price blue iris. They were planted late (when the planted ones had already stopped flowering) but they'll come back next year, and the next and the next
