I picked up a reduced Benjamin Britten rose last year which seemed OK last autumn but this spring seems to have a pretty bad case of black spot and is dropping the worst affected leaves. I was a bit surprised because I normally find Austin roses to be pretty good at resisting and at worst having minor cases of black spot. Has anyone else had experience with this variety?

Mine have plenty of leaves, but unfortunately they're covered in greenfly. I'm going to have to get the soapy water spray out tomorrow, because they're awful. The foliage is all sticky and horrible. And only April....Mostly flowers, some fruit and veg, at the seaside in Edinburgh.

So far, so goodl
This is a very old bush, trained on a south facing wall.
Doesn't get any particular treatment but just comes back bigger and better each year.
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
