    I would line them with some UV plastic, pondliner, roofing membrane, whatever you can get your hands on, to keep the damp soil from rotting the inside timber. I would then cap the join with a roofing batten so that you can mask the plastic and protect the exposed edge. Voila they will last as long as you weather proof the outside. I have 6 x 1 planked beds which have been made in this way which are over 8 years old and still as strong as an ox.
    I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

      I will keep all that in mind when I am replacing them as my daughter did them in a day and refilled them as she went I was lucky she did them as she is not a gardening person .Thanks.

        Willow screening would look lovely but would it make yet another hiding place for slugs and snails?.
