If you are looking for a fast and efficient way to compost, hot composting is a great solution.
Hot composting bins use aerobic composting methods that are designed to heat up to high temperatures, allowing the efficient composting of more types of waste faster than traditional methods, typically in 30-90 days. This means less waste to go out for kerbside collections and instead recycling more waste into nutrient-rich peat free compost for use around the garden.
HOTBIN Composting offers a range of hot composting solutions, including:
- Continuous hot composters with a liquid fertiliser collection system suitable for use at home and
- A new larger batch hot composter, the HOTBIN Mega, suited for composting greater quantities down on the plot
Typically reaching temperatures of 40-60°C, HOTBIN has thick insulating walls that lock in the heat generated naturally by bacteria, so no accelerators are required. This heat also means that a wider variety of waste can be composted; not only can you add in green waste from the kitchen and garden, but even waste types typically forbidden in cold composting systems, such as cooked food, small bones and perennial weeds.
Composting can often require the need for hefty turning and tumbling to get oxygen into the pile – with the HOTBIN, however, as an aerobic composter, the supply of oxygen comes from adding woody material in with waste thus removing the need for any back-breaking turning of the pile.
If you have mounds of shredded paper or delivery boxes, the HOTBIN is also a great way to recycle those materials using them to absorb excess moisture inside the unit which is an essential part of the HOTBIN’s operation. Any non-glossy absorbent materials can be added, simply chop or shred and add in alongside the waste when feeding the unit.
HOTBIN requires a mixture of waste types, so simply add chopped waste into the top of the unit along with paper/card and woody material, and remove compost from the bottom via the hatch. Completely sealed, all HOTBIN units have a solid base and a filter in the lid to trap any composting odours, so you can be safe in the knowledge that there should be no issues from pests.
All HOTBIN’s are manufactured in the UK. Discover the award-winning range of HOTBIN Composting systems at hotbincomposting.com
