When the aforementioned Titchmarsh took over that was it switched off until Monty Don took over. I had enjoyed shows that I had seen him in - he comes over as a real gardener to me. I hope he manages the odd show.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Sad he's not doing Gardener's World any more, one of the few who would have filled St Geoff's shoes.
As for replacements, not Sarah Raven (unless she has her vocal superlatives clinically removed) not Rachel de Thame (far too precious). Bob Flowerdew can be a bit pompous and condescending (read his monthly article in another garden mag so see what I mean).
John Cuchnie for sure, love him on Gardener's Question Time or Carol - I know she's OTT sometimes but she cares about what she does, she's a plantswoman rather than a 'buy them at your garden centre' type gardener. And doesn't she look strange in a skirt on the Chelsea progs!!!TonyF, Dordogne 24220

GW won't be the same without Monty. But I always said that when Geoff Hamilton went as well. Bob Flowerdew would be a good replacement. I agree with others that Carol Klein would be a bit ott and I hope that personality bypass Joe Swift doesn't get it. For a change it would be nice to see either Rachel de Thame or Sarah Raven presenting. Alys would be good to look at, but I'm not sure she has the personality to pull it off

I recently read of the dramatic decline of new recruits to horticulture.
Not suprizing considering the current role models
It's all going a bit too 'celebrity' for my liking
Lets have some new blood...normal folk that can help us all find the answers to our growing questions ?
"Why don't you go switch off your television set and go do something less boring instead"...I'm giving away my age there.. (didn't understand it then !)

What about Lucy Halsall then? I quite like reading her articles in another mag, and she's good when she's on the radio. Plus, she does ornamentals and edibles!
If pop idol sort of programmes have a good rating, they should do the selection of the new GW presenter in that format, the only way I'd ever watch one of such programmes! (just as long as it's not chaired by graham whatever his name is!!)

there is certainly no doubt that Carol has vast knowledge and you may be right Manda, but as she stands right now I'd be exhausted watching her all through the programme.
Sbowdrop is still saying Rachel de Thame - but then he's a blokie and not even a gardening blokie so he doesn't count in the voting!Last edited by piskieinboots; 26-05-2008, 11:09 AM.aka

She's looking a little time-worn. So are we all, but we aren't all posing as the gardening man's crumpet.
I don't know who I want but I do know who I don't want! Not Joe, Not Carol, Not Sarah, Not J Cushnie, Definitely not Christine.
How about the bloke who chairs Gardeners' Question Time? Seems like a nice boy. Saw him on a programme about the Lakeland Curmudgeon, Wainwright.Last edited by Flummery; 26-05-2008, 12:02 PM.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.
