Recommend Me A Salad Potato Please.

I'm not all that clued up on potatoes...I'm more a squash/courgette/runner bean kind of girl. So when it comes to tatties I don't mind admitting I'm on dodgy ground. Could anyone recommend me a good small salad potato that doesn't take up lot's of room, with good flavour and disease resistance.

My recommendation would be to go to somewhere where you can buy Seed Tubers "loose" and buy a few of each variety, and grow them, and see what you like.

Different folks will have different Favs, and your soil / growing conditions will influence flavour, and even if you came here for one of my superlative BBQ's [even if I say so myself!] you still might not like my choice of Spud variety.

But my preference is Pink Fir Apple.

My personal favourite - and also that of Medwyn Williams - is Lady Christl. Lovely yellowish flesh which is deliciously buttery, even before you add the mandatory half pound of butter that should accompany all new salad potatoes!

I'm growing them for the first time too , I've got some charlotte, pink fir apple and international Kidney to try ......
Pink fir apple , I've been told grow very tall and are better for being left longer in the ground, .....

Splitting hairs: but "Charlotte", "international Kidney" and "Lady Christl" are not Salad Potatoes (nice thought they may be ...) ... but its also possible that wasn't really the O/P's question either

Hmm so there is a specific definition of a salad potato then - I wasn't sure?
I just use any firm, waxy potato in a salad - but specially pink fir apple! I still have a few in the ground!

hmmm just checked various top sites.. JBA say it's a salad potato, but it's under a 2nd early link. Checked after I checked a few of my usual sites when they say it's salad. *confused*

edit: *shrug* it is damn nice as a salad potato.. probably the best tasting spud I've ever had. I'm also growing pink fir, this year to try, and anya too - but have a load of charlottes to grow again!

Thanks Mommy, I think I'll go with the Charlotte. The Potato council can't be too wrong...after all it's there job .
