  • Attacked by cockerel!!!!!!

Would you credit it, go to feed cockerels and one of the faverolles tries to jump through the open door over my shoulder. Picks it up and pushed it to the back of the coop whereupon it launches itself at me. Did the same thing three times so I just shut the coop door (which has a wired window in it).

Blowed if it doesn't keep launching itself at the window feet first.

The damm thing just about sealed it's fate there and then.............but I was so mad I decided not to do anything in that state and cool down a bit first.

It was the next one to be culled anyway so now I deffo won't feel so bad about culling it!

It's always working it's ticket with the other cockerels as well, but usually comes off the worst!
I've heard of small man syndrome.......... but this bird, because it is the smallest cockerel has small chook syndrome.

I think it might happen sooner or later to all of us who keep cockerels. I definitely don't fancy being attacked by Basil - he's a big b***er for 7 months old! I'll have to keep the sweeping brush nearer to the gate methinks
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

Ah..well...my two boys are less than 3lbs!!!!..and yup- at one year old- I'm careful to approach them from the side.
Seems to work....a hand -face on- ( like you'd offer a dog for a sniff) seems like an attack to a cockerel

I'm wary enough with a 2lb cockerel...can't blame you Snadger!!!
my 2 x 6month old lads were irritating the moms and the papas....clearly ready for their own flock ....or the dinner table!..don't feel bad about it!

        ......just watch yr eyes Snadge!!

He's clearly heard about your reputation and is using attack as the best form of defence

(Wasn't wearing a mini poncho or calling himself The Chook With No Name was he? ).
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

If I remember rightly I did call him a cheeky little ****! Maybe I hurt his pride?

hehehe - you made me laugh snadger - i thought it was just us!

we have a cock just like that - he a vicious little sod and we have to go into the run armed and ready for action - trouble is hes a show winning laveneder cuckoo otherwise he'd have gone ages ago!!

We also have a black cochin cock - hes great with everyone except me - he always goes for me - do you think hes trying to tell me something - even my 10 year old laughs because he eats out of her hand and she can pick him up - but if I go near him .........

Hmm, sounds about ready for eating then Snadger. Watch out though, nasty cockerels are really nasty!

I am a step closer to hatching my own chooks since our butcher friend offered to despatch any boys for me. We agreed a deal where he gets half of them as payment

We ate our shirty cock a while back now and a one of his sons that was following in Dads footsteps a littlle tooo closely. He (the Dad) was no.1 Roo and freeranged with the hens, would attack me from the length of the back garden away especially if my back was turned, couldn't hang the washing out with out the dog for protection and had to take a riot shield(rubber skipping out bucket) to feed/collect eggs, I'd tried chasing him(doesn't work when they won't run away) pinning him to the fence with said sheild, picking him up and carrying him, putting him in prison (a smallish coop - he got worse!) and turning the hose on him (which did slow him down), He had to go! All my young cockerals get chased around and a hand placed on their backs at the slightest sign of aggression, and it seems to be keeping anymore from stepping out of line...
