  • The sun has only been showing it's face for a few hours a day this last week, so I've resorted to rotating my chilli and pepper plants around the house.

They normally sit on my bedroom window sill but looking at the weather it's sunny this morning and cloudy the rest of the day. So I've fetched them downstairs and plonked them int he front window to get as much sun as possible before it buggers off for the day.

Anyone else rotate things to get them as much sun as possible?

    • Yes, Scoot - I'm a bit of a sun chaser with my plants ..... But not as much now that all my 'children' have all graduated to the GH - although they still do get shuffled about a bit - you know, as they grow taller they have to come from the top staging to the middle one, then to the ground ....

      • SP. I had chillies in 3" pots with huge top growth and hefty root systems up until a week ago.....in the poly.......and crammed onto trays.....time kinda ran away somhaving taken advice from another grower I decided to pot these straight into their final pots in make shift poly in quad grows last weekend.....we'll see how they do.....I'm thinking the season is plenty late enough with the oddball weather so perhaps all of mine will just pod late :-)

        • Ladyslip, either they'll love you for it or they won't!
Some of my chillis and peppers have been left to fend for themselves in fairly small pots - and surprisingly they look quite full with foliage/flowers ....

The ones I have potted into large 'final' pots have grown somewhat taller than the others left in small pots (no shock there), but the amount of flowers on each seems to be pretty equal ....

It'll be interesting to see how many fruits they all eventually produce, and if it's worth the effort of potting into really large pots, or not ....

          • I've got some pics of last years grow I'll try and put on SusieG........I didn't sow until March last year and toward the end at that ...even tho I have props greenhouse and lights...which I haven't bothered with this year or last I still had a good crop so for leaving them in tidgy pot I figure I'll prob get something....many have/had buds/flowers forming....which I figure planting into such an extreme pot change they'll either stunt but most likely drop and some I've removed.....I mix my own compost too and add a few bits so they have a good run at it :-)

            • stopped flowering

I've posted this in a different section but then noticed the link to this thread so posting here if thats ok.
My super chillis have stopped flowering, they've got plenty of fruit , planted form seed at the end of Jan. Is this the end of the floweinr phase or will they flower again?
I'm feeding about once a fortnight with tomotoe food - not sure if I should be, and watering every day.

                • How big are the roots? I'd be tempted to pot on and take the red chillies off. What are they?

Thanks! Not entirely sure what super they are, the order says they are "Super Chilli (F1) seeds " does this mean anything?

I'm also growing Aji Limon, these plants are getting quite large too and several chillies on them. Does the Aji Limon grow any bigger ( see photo ) I'm thinking I might need to stake them soon.

                    • They look brilliant!
The aji lemon can easily grow to 4ft or more. The bigger the pot, the bigger the plant. They will overwinter very well too. Yes you will need to stake them!

I'm looking to collect some seed from the Hungarian hot wax..I've read they must be ripe before taking the seed..trouble is I've not frown them before... Would these be 'ripe' or would they turn even more yellow!?
