So all 4 of my chilli varieties have germinated in the heated prop. Looking good for plenty of hot chillis

all mine in the heated propagator yesterday - habanero, jalapeno, papecchia, padron, chenzo, hungarian hot wax. My lemon drops seem to be surviving winter so far, one of them has flower buds forming again.

how long should chillies take to germinate as a rule? Mine are in pots on a sunny window sill which has a radiator on the wall under it, so whilst it's not a proper propogator, there will be a certain amount of heat there.

Mine took 7 - 14 days this year, they were in a warm room - probably a constant 20C

Mine also on a windowsill with a radiator below came up in a few days (3 I think). Well 12 out of 15 did the rest no sign of and its been a few weeks now.

A few benefit from a hotter germinating temperature - 25 celcius say. But they'll still germinate at lower temperatures; they'll just take longer, sometimes 3-4 weeks. Most should be through after 7-10 days. If no joy after a month, seeds may have rotted or just be duds.

Any thoughts on soaking the seeds beforehand?

I have heard this can increase the successful germination %

It should speed the germination, but I do not think it will increase the %

I have done some using the paper towel method in an airing cupboard, if that is similar
